Elephant Festival Tour in Kerala - Thrissur Pooram

Itinerary Details
Day 01: Arrive Calicut, Kerala
Arrive at Calicut Airport by flight from Mumbai. Assistance on arrival and transfer to hotel. Evening visit Kalar Centre for demonstration of Kalaripayattu, the martial art of Kerala is regarded as the oldest and most scientific in the world. The demonstration includes the use of weapons such as swords, spears, daggers, the bow and arrow.
Day 02: Calicut – Guruvayur (130 Kms / 3 Hrs)
After some rest visit the Guruvayur Temple (From Outside as Non Hindus are not allowed inside the temple).
Later visit the Elephant Sanctuary, which is only one of its kinds in the World. It has 51 elephants now. These jumbos are the offerings of the devotees to the Lord. A large number of pilgrims and tourists visit this fascinating spot every day. All these elephants were offered by devotees of Lord Guruvayurappa.
Day 03: Guruayur – Thrissur (25 Kms / 1 Hr)
Morning visit Kalamandalam Dance School, which is undoubtedly the best institution in India imparting training and conducting performance of Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Panchavadyam and Thullal. Enjoy the Dance Performance perform by the students.
* Kalamandalam remains closed on Saturday and Sunday. Timings: 1000 hrs to 1600 hrs.
We continue drive to Thrissur. The city had a chequered history and was developed first by the Zamorins of Calicut then Tippu Sultan of Mysore followed by the Dutch and the British.
Day 04: Thrissur (24th, April 2011)
Today enjoy the Festival activities. Thrissur is famous the world over for its mesmerizing colorful Pooram Festival. This two-century-old festival is a festival of temple elephants decked out in their finest livery and percussion instruments - a 36-hour marathon event.
In the evening of Pooram two lines of 15 elephants from opposing temples face each other with ceremonial umbrellas blossoms over the elephants. A magnificent fireworks display end this  spectacular event.
Day 05: Thrissur – Cochin (90 Kms / 2 Hrs)
Today in the morning also enjoy the festival activities as attended the previous day, since the activities go on till afternoon. Drive to Cochin. Explore the ancient fort town and harbour city of Cochin (Kochi) popular for spice trade. Finish the day with an afternoon cruise on the harbour and evening at leisure.
Day 06: Cochin
Full day tailor made sightseeing tour in Kochi visiting many of the city’s historic sights. In evening enjoy a Kathakali dance performance performed by men and noted for elaborate make-up and costumes.
Day 07: Cochin – Periyar (180 Kms / 4 Hrs)
Drive to Periyar. With a local guide, explore a spice plantation to see how spices are grown and harvested. Enjoy a scenic wildlife boat cruise in Periyar – a great opportunity to spot wild elephants, gaur and deer.
Day 08: Periyar – Kumarakom (130 Kms / 3 Hrs)
Located in the Kerala Backwaters, Kumarakom is a haven of peace and tranquillity. A range of activities can be planned including guided village walks, boat trips and bird watching to name but a few. Ayurveda treatments are also offered and resident naturalists offer nature walks.
Day 09: Kumarakom - Allepey - Backwater Cruise (35 Kms/ 40 Min)
Drive to Alleppey for a night aboard a private rice barge, a traditional Kerala houseboat, journeying through the scenic backwaters that fringe the coast. Enjoy the nature bliss and see village life passing by from your backwater cruise.
Day 10: Allepey - Cochin (65 Kms/ 2 Hrs) – Fly Out
Disembark from backwater cruise and drive to Cochin for Flight onwards.
